100% Increase in Minimum Wage to Affect Jobs, Exports

According to one of the biggest exporters body Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), a 100% increase in the minimum wages in the garment industry i.e. from the current Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 18,000 can have a negative effect on the jobs and may hamper exports too. In that regard, Council chairman Ashok G Rajani has asked the government to clear the air on the Wage Code Bill which was approved by the Union Cabinet last month.

The new Wage Code Bill was approved to integrate all the four major labor laws and establish fixed norms for all the workers.
