2020 trade growth weakened due to coronavirus outbreak

Trade growth is going to remain slow in 2020 and the trend performance could also worsen due to the coronavirus outburst.

The goods trade indicator of the Geneva-based body has seen a decline in the last few months. This means a further weakening of the merchandise trade. According to WTO statistics, Global merchandise trade declined by 0.2% in the year 2019 as compared to the last year.

Even though the coronavirus outbreak has given a blow to China and other countries when it comes to trade factors, China has said that “it is on the verge of being completely stabilized and factories will open soon”, as reported to the Business Standard.
