Only 2,300 Bank Branches Set up Aadhaar Centres

Just about 2,300 branches of private and public sector banks have opened Aadhaar centers on their premises against the target of 15,300, an official said. This is in spite of the fact that UIDAI had extended the deadline for the banks to set up Aadhaar enrolment and updating centers on 10% of the total branches from September 31 to October 31.

According to sources, State Bank of India has opened Aadhaar centers on 356 branches out of the required 2918, Dena Bank on 194 out of the required 339, and HDFC on 74 out of required 403

Once the deadline has passed, the non-compliant banks will have to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000 for each uncovered branch.
