3 Million Fake Business Profiles Taken Down by Google Last Year

According to the Blog post, over 3 million fake business profiles were removed from Google Maps by parent company Google last year. These profiles could have potentially defrauded many customers, the company said.

Business scammers often take advantage of local listings that can be made with Google by sharing establishment address, contact numbers, etc. They impersonate real businesses to identify leads and sell them to others, Google Maps Product Director Ethan Russell said. He also said that the company is using different techniques to prevent exploitation of the platform.
