300 Million Benefitting from Grameen Bank Model: Mohd. Yunus

Bangladesh-based Grameen Bank founder Mohd. Yunus said that after changing the lives of as many as 9 million Bangladeshis and helping to raise about 100,000 USD, the model has reached about 300 million users spread all across the world.
Yunus, who was present to deliver the ‘Arijit Mukherji Memorial Lecture’ at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, said that the idea of turning a micro-credit service into an alternative investment fund can be used for fighting unemployment. He said that even as the rich people become loan defaulters, traditional banks still reach out to them. However, it’s important that the poor also receive the money they need.
