Aadhaar Subsidy Issue: Airtel Pays Rs. 2.5 Crore Penalty to UIDAI

India’s largest mobile network operator Airtel paid a penalty of Rs. 2.5 crores to the Aadhaar-body UIDAI after complaints were raised against it by its network subscribers who said that their bank accounts were opened with the payments bank without their consent.

Airtel has given assurance that it will return the Rs. 190 crores worth of LPG subsidies to the original bank accounts of the subscribers.  In addition to that, it will also intimate 31 lakh customers about the same.
