Amazon acquires encrypted messaging app wickr

Amazon has acquired a scrambled informing application Wickr established in 2012. The conditions of the deal were not disclosed.

Wickr’s application like secure messaging competitor Signal has been well known with journalists and whistleblowers; it’s anything but’s a go-to for criminals, the Verge reported.

It is unclear if the proximity to the tech monolith will affect the application’s popularity of free users.

“We’re eager to share that AWS has acquired Wickr, an innovative organization that has developed the industry most secure, end-to-end encrypted, communication technology,” Stephen Schmidt, Amazon Web Services’ VP, said in an statement.

With a nod to the organization’s ever deepening relationships with the military, and Washington when all is said in done, Schmidt added that Wickr’s features give “security-conscious enterprises and government agencies the ability to implement important governance and security controls to help them meet their compliance requirements”.
