Bain Capital May Invest as Much as $1 bn in Axis Bank

Bain Capital is about to finalize a deal with the private sector Axis Bank in which it will invest anywhere between $750 million and $1 billion. This is the bank’s attempt at dealing with the worsening asset quality and RBI’s tight scrutiny over the same. What’s more, it could be one of the largest private equity investments in the history of the Indian banking sector.
Bain Capital will propose an investment under which, it will acquire 5% stake in Axis bank. However, sources say that it may also offer a secondary deal under which it will acquire another 5%.
