Bank Unions Plan All-India Strike on August 22

To raise voice against the merger of various public sector banks (PSBs) and privatization of the industry, bank employee unions have called for a national strike on August 22, confirmed by a union leader himself.

C H Venkatachalam, who is the General Secretary of All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said that AIBEA, which comprises of 9 bank unions, has called for an all-India strike to protest against privatization of PSBs and consolidation of the banks and will be joined by as many as 10 lakh employees. He also said that a second strike will also be conducted sometime in October or November.
