CBDT Wants Broader Tax Base, Asks IT Dept to Add 13 mn New Filers

A directive in the Central Action Plan (CAP) for FY20 has been issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) through which the policy-framing body has asked the IT department to widen the tax base. It’s asked the department to as 1.30 crore new tax filers in the current fiscal year.
The document said that there is scope for the further widening of the direct tax base of the nation as growth has been observed in the economic activities in both organized and unorganized sectors.
