Centre Considers Setting up EV Targets for Public Transporters

According to a NITI Aayog official, the government is contemplating asking the state public transporters to maintain a certain percentage of their vehicles as electric vehicles. However, for the personal vehicles, it feels it’s best that the market forces decide whether the people want electric cars or petrol/diesel cars.

The official said that the government wants to push electric vehicles in the country. However, instead of bringing a change through a policy, it aims to accomplish it by changing the behaviour of the people.  As of today, there are as many as 100,000 to 150,000 electric vehicles in the country.
