IT Department Aims at Adding 1.25 cr. New Taxpayers This Fiscal

Following the government’s goal of widening the tax base in the country, the Income Tax department has been asked to rope in 1.25 crore new tax filers during the current fiscal year.

IT department’s decision-making body CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) has directed the department to “significantly increase the tax base” in FY18, with the prime target regions as Hyderabad and Pune. The targets for these regions have been set at 12.8 lakh new filers and 11.8 lakh new filers, respectively.
