Despite UDAY, IPPs Still Waiting for Dues of Rs. 20,000 Crores

Even as UDAY scheme helped to save as much as Rs. 15,000 crores this year in March-end in debt servicing costs, many public-sector power distribution entities (discoms) are yet to pay Independent Power Producers their due payments which are estimated to be about Rs. 20,000 crores.

According to the sources, the total pending payments that were delayed beyond a 60-day window from discoms to 7 IPPs in Q2-end this year amounted to Rs 8,033 crore. Factoring in the similar payments’ problems experienced by other IPPs, the total amount is estimated to be Rs. 20,000 crores.

Several IPPs recently met with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to raise the issue.
