In a bid to popularize electric vehicles (EVs) across India, the government is working to set up a large number of charging stations around the country.

Power Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that charging stations will be built for every 3 km on highways and in select cities. He said that the Union government has already acquired some EVs that will be used by officials to spread awareness and increase their acceptance. He also said that as per the National Renewable Energy Act 2015, no license is necessary for setting up a charging station which will help with the agenda.
