“Faceless, Nameless” E-Assessment Procedure to be Launched in 2018 for Tax Payers

The government is planning to launch a “faceless and nameless” e-assessment procedure for the income taxpayers in 2018.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has been running a pilot project on the process in several major cities for quite some time now to check its feasibility. It has also set up a high-level committee for the process and asked it to submit a report on or before February 28, 2018.
The goal of the new e-assessment system is to reduce the number of visits that the taxpayers have to make to the Income Tax offices, as well as minimize the manpower requirements.
