Fines Under Amended Motor Vehicles Act Can be Slashed by States, Says Nitin Gadkari

Minister of Road Transport, and Highway, Nitin Gadkari said that the union government has no problem with individual states lowering the penalties that have been set for various traffic violations under the new Motor Vehicles Act. He said that the states can make changes to the penalties.

Gadkari’s comments are coming at a time when many states are opposing the new penalties which they believe are too stringent. It’s also worth noting that the Gujarat government recently lowered the new fines by as much as 90%. Tamil Nadu is another state to follow its footsteps and had recently announced that it will slash the fines as well.
