Government Looks for Merger Candidates in PSBs

The government has started reviewing the profiles of several Public Sector Banks (PSBs) for the next banking merger. This comes in as the state-run banks are yet to approach the finance ministry with their consolidation plans.

A senior government official who is aware of the key developments in the merger process said that the government is evaluating all their options. He said that if asked by the banks, the government will share their findings but in the end it’s the banks’ call to initiate the consolidation process.
