As Govt. Ponders GST Rate Cut on AC Restaurants, Dining Out Could Get Cheaper

In light of the numerous complains of high bills raised by the consumers, the finance ministry is considering to lower the GST rates for AC restaurants from the current 18% to 12%. This proposition will be discussed during the next GST council meeting that’s scheduled on November 9.
Additionally, the group of ministers (GoM) will check whether the AC restaurants are passing on the benefit of cost reduction to their customers. In case they are not, the GoM will consider whether they should be disallowed to avail Input Tax Credits (ITC).
