GST Collection Clocks at Over ₹1 Trillion for Third Month in a Row

The collection from Goods and Services Tax (GST) stood at over ₹1 trillion in May which is the third month in a row. Even though this makes for 6% year-over-year growth, there are challenges ahead for the new finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the Central GST target for the financial year 2019-20 is 35% higher than last year.

MS Mani, who is a partner at Deloitte India said that the tough GST revenue targets for the current financial year will force the government to increase revenue and limit revenue leakages.
