Hospital Room Rent Exempted from GST

Offering clarification during a recent Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) session, the government said that the rent paid by the patients for hospital rooms is exempted from the Goods and Service Tax.

The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) also answered the questions regarding the tax applicable on rooms in hotels, inns, and guest houses. It said that GST is applicable on the actual amount that’s charged to the customer and not the rates advertised by the hotel. Moreover, no GST is applicable is the room tariff is below Rs. 1,000.
