Lenders must Provide Doorstep Banking to Senior Citizens, Says RBI

This Thursday, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) asked the banks to provide doorstep banking services to senior citizens of age 70 and above and the differently-abled by December this year.

The central bank has directed the lenders to offer basic services such as pick-up and delivery of cash, demand drafts, cheque-books, etc.

In a recent notification, the bank said that it has observed that many banks tend to turn away senior citizens or the differently-abled from using the banking services. In light of the same, they are being advised to make an effort to provide basic banking facilities.
