Maharashtra Digitisation Plans Hit a Roadblock

Maharashtra’s plans to digitize the ration shops across the state has come to a halt as a spanner has been thrown into the works by the banks.

Following the works of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadavis wants to digitize 50,000 ration shops in the state. However, a conflict has emerged between the banks and the administration over the treatment of equipment suppliers.

In the Andhra model, the micro-ATMs installed in the ration shops are owned by the government. However, Maharashtra wants to outsource the supply of these machines to service providers.

The banks have declined to cooperate as they say that the service providers hired by the government are seeking a commission from them.
