Maharashtra Receives Over 8.90 Lakh New Farm Loan Waiver Applications

The state government of Maharashtra has received 8.90 lakh farm loan waiver applications in excess to the actual number of eligible farmers.
According to the government data, only about 44,48,599 farmers have outstanding loans. However, the total number of applications received has reached 53,39,007.
The farm loan waiver is expected to set the Maharashtra government back by Rs. 34,000.
State Agriculture Minister Pandurang Fundkar said that while it’s true that the government has received more no. of applications than expected, they are not jumping to conclusions and only the eligible farmers will get the waiver.
