Maharashtra to implement STARs project for schools
Maharashtra School Education department will implement the STAR initiative for the next five years to improve the overall teaching and learning process in schools across the state. The initiative is a $500 million project funded by the World Bank to improve the quality of education in six states.
The implementation will take place in a phased manner over the next few years. Strengthening the pre-primary education in Maharashtra through Anganwadis with emphasis on quality infrastructure, teacher training, etc.
The education department will also set up a teacher training platform and issue certification after the completion of the training modules. There will also be efforts to improve education outcomes and extend counseling and guidance for students.
The STAR project will be implemented under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. A committee will look over the working of the initiative across the state.
An official from the state government said, “The total cost of the project is ₹976 cr, of which ₹390 cr will be spent by state govt & ₹586 cr by central govt”.
