Modi’s Vision in Jeopardy? Report Says Farming Remained Unprofitable for Two Decades
On one hand the NDA government is actively touting the idea of doubling the income of the farmers by 2022, but on the other hand, a report has been released that shows it might be far cry from reality.

A recent OECD-ICRIER report says that despite the numerous government reforms, farming has been largely unprofitable for nearly 2 decades. Although the farmers received subsidies for various inputs including irrigation, power, and fertilizers, their gross profit plummeted by 14% between 2000-2016.

The report suggests that the center needs to roll out new reforms and improve the existing ones to accelerate farmers’ income.
