New Aadhaar-Enabled ATMs to Make Cash Dispensers Smarter

Banks are planning to replace the current ATMs with their advanced counterparts that will have fixed menu options and touch-screen displays. These “smart” ATMs will be able to offer a variety of features including net banking and Aadhaar-based biometric authentication.

The total number of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) installed across India crossed the 1 lakh mark some 6 years back, and now a sizeable chunk of these are due for a replacement or upgrade.

Banks are now attracted towards upgraded ATM machines that come with touchscreen displays and are priced around Rs. 3 lakh each. In addition to that, the NCR region, in particular, has been able to bring these ATM hardware costs down mainly because of the “Make in India” initiative.
