NPAs Stood at Rs. 7.43 Lakh Crores at September-end

The amount of non-performing assets (NPAs) with the public-sector banks (PSBs) stood at Rs. 7.34 lakh crores at the end of the second quarter that ended in September. The majority of these accounts belong to corporates, RBI data says.

The situation of the NPAs in the private sector banks, on the other hand, is poles apart, as their bad loans stood at a mere Rs. 1.03 lakh crores during the same period.

Among the public-sector banks, State Bank of India has the biggest chunk of the NPAs at Rs. 1/86 lakh crore, followed by Punjab National Bank at Rs. 57,630 crores.
