Operating Profit of Air India May Rise as Government Plans to Sell

The national carrier Air India is expected to observe increased operating profits while the government looks forward to selling the company. According to a few executives, the passenger revenues for the carrier increased to Rs. 16,200 in 2016, and it will be only the 2nd year the airline will announce an operating profit since its merger with Indian Airlines in 2007.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said this Saturday that it’s not a good idea to invest in airline any further that has a market share of just 14%. Besides, selling the carrier will also benefit the banks that had previously refused to restructure the loans worth Rs. 8,000 crores.
