Printing of New Rs. 500 Notes Set the Government Back by Rs. 5,000 cr

In a reply to the Lok Sabha by the Minister of State for Finance – P Radhakrishnan, said that about 1,695.7 crore pieces of new Rs. 500 currency notes were printed up to December 8, for which the production cost stood at Rs. 4,968.84 crores.

Radhakrishnan also said that as many as 365.4 crore pieces of Rs. 2,000 currency notes, and 178 crore pieces of Rs. 200 notes were printed by the Reserve Bank of India, the production cost of which stood at Rs. 1,293.6 crores and Rs. 522.83 crores respectively.
