Private Insurers Settled Claims Worth ₹7 cr for Railways Passengers, Received ₹46 cr in 2 years

According to a new RTI reply, private insurers who are a part of India Railways’ travel insurance scheme earned 46 crores worth of premiums during the past 2 years but paid only 7 crores in claim settlements during the same period.

Today, IRCTC offers travel insurance to railway passengers under a partnership with 3 insurers which are ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Ltd., Shriram General Insurance Ltd., and Royal Sundaram General Insurance Company. Passengers can opt for insurance cover for a nominal amount of 0.92 per passenger.
