Reliance Retail in talks to buy Subway India

After grocery, ed-tech, music, e-pharmacy, payments, fashion and furniture, Mukesh Ambani seems to be keen on taking a big bite of the quick service restaurant (QSR) business. Reliance Industries is in talks with the world’s biggest single brand restaurant chain, Subway Inc, to purchase its India franchise for $200-250 million (₹1,488-1,860 crore), said individuals up to date.

The Connecticut, US-based sandwich maker works together in India through a regional master franchisees. Internationally, the organization is going through a rebuilding under CEO John Chidsey to move headquarters, slash costs and worldwide headcount in the midst of plummeting deals, warring franchisees and growing speculation of a global takeover.

At the point when ET sought its comment, Subway said: “It isn’t our practice to comment on current or potential franchisees.” Reliance Industries didn’t react to an email looking for comment.

The discussions, if effective, will give RIL retail unit an organization of 600-odd Subway stores across India and help further differentiate its Omni-channel initiatives to more segments.
