SBI to Redesign Tax Cheque Envelopes to Prevent PAN Misuse

India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) is going to redesign the envelopes used for dispatching tax refund cheques to its customers to protect their PAN and personal details.

The decision is taken after almost 16 months since activist Commodore (retd.) Lokesh Batra raised a concern that the bank’s window envelopes allowed for an opportunity to see the PAN and contact information of the customers, thus posing a risk towards the misuse of the same.

SBI said that the window envelopes are now redesigned so that the “PAN number is not visible to anyone”.
