SBI Thinks Beyond Data Warehousing, to Create Data Lake

To offer on-the-fly analytics to bank professionals, State Bank of India is planning to go one step ahead of the standard data warehousing practices and create a data lake.

In a recent interview, deputy managing director and CEO of SBI, Mrutyunjay Mahapatra said that the lender has already placed an order for 6 lakh fingerprint readers for biometric authentication at PoS (Point of Sale) terminals in regard to the new initiative. He also said that the data lake will collect information residing with the organization such as customers’ letters, video recording, meetings, etc. and process the same for valuable insights.
