SBI: Thousands of Employees Transferred, Hundreds of Branches Closed

Since the beginning of the current fiscal, India’s largest lender State Bank of India has transferred thousands of employees and closed 594 branches and 122 administrative offices as a part of the merger process. However, surprisingly enough, no major protests have been observed regarding the changes. Although the banking unions have consistently opposed the merger since the announcement, they haven’t taken any strong action against the same, even as SBI was worried.
According to SBI officials, there will be even more transfers to the tune of thousands and additional branch closings in the coming months.
