SBI to Pay Rs. 1 Lakh Fine for Frivolous Appeal

Public sector State Bank of India has been ordered by the Delhi State consumer panel to pay Rs. 1.29 lakh to a customer for not taking the necessary measures to block their stolen ATM card in 2006. Moreover, the panel has charged the lender a fine of Rs. 1 lakh for raising a “frivolous” appeal.

The panel decided that instead of refunding the due amount to the complainant, the lender filed a “false and frivolous” appeal. It thus declared that the case should be “dismissed” with costs of Rs. 1 lakh.
