SEBI Plans to Hire Chief Economist
September 19, 2017
In a bid to improve its research capacity, securities regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has decided to appoint a chief economist who will get the power equivalent to that of an executive director along with comparable pay and benefits.
According to a senior official, a proposal regarding hiring a chief economist will be raised during the next meeting. If it’s approved, Sebi will have its very first chief economist who will oversee the entire macroeconomic system for the market regulator.
Interestingly, in 2011 SEBI issued an advertisement to invite applications for a chief economist position but it was met with a tepid response.
