SEZ Exports Paint a Promising Picture, Make a Jump of 15.4%

According to ministry data, exports from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) stood at Rs. 1.35 lakh crores during Q1 of the current fiscal, an increase of 15.4%.

Industry stakeholders and analysts say that although exports from the SEZs are increasing, the government still needs to do more to support the shipments.

Rahul Gupta, who is the chairman of Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs (EPCES) said that units in the SEZs are able to get an upper hand over the units in the domestic tariff area. He said that for the former to buy products from units outside of their zones, the government needs to create a proper refund mechanism for the duties paid by them.
