Telangana Plans to Enact a New Excise Policy Soon

In a bid to regulate trading in the state, especially after the Supreme Court’s order that banned liquor shops located near the national highways, the Telangana government is planning to issue a new excise policy that’s in line with the same.
Revenue’s principal secretary Somesh Kumar said that as the plan is to complete the finalization of all the liquor outlets by September 11, the new excise policy will be effective from October 1, 2017, to September 20, 2019.
Telangana has 3,200 outlets today which deposit about Rs. 14,000 crore in the form of VAT and excise duty on the sale of liquor every year.
