UDAY Scheme Helped Discoms Slash Losses by 70%

As per a Deutsche Bank Market Research report, Modi government’s UDAY scheme helped debt-ridden discoms cut their annual losses by as much as 70%.

The center launched UDAY scheme in November 2015 that brought various reforms in the power distribution sector. At the time, discoms were facing annual losses worth Rs. 60,000 crores. However, now they are facing annual losses of only Rs. 17, 350 crores.

The report said that UDAY scheme helped discoms lower their technical and commercial losses by 5% as well. However, it’s still not keeping up with the targeted projections, it said.
