Utility Sector to Reach the Next Level as Government Plans to Introduce Smart Meters

In a bid to support the struggling power distribution companies, the government is planning to buy five million smart meters in a tender that will be conducted next month.
According to Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. i.e. the agency chosen for running the country’s energy efficiency programs and responsible for the tender, in a pilot project four million smart meters will be used in Uttar Pradesh and the remaining one million in Haryana. If the results are positive, it can help tackle the problem of billing inefficiencies to a great extent and thus save a considerable amount of money.
