Uttar Pradesh Launches Smart Meter Project
The Uttar Pradesh government has rolled out the smart meter project starting with PM Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has notified the regulator UPERC that nearly 40 lakh smart meters will be installed in regions where electricity-theft is rampant by March 2021.   

According to the report, 11.63 lakh meters will be installed under Meerut discom, 11.47 lakh under Varanasi discom, 9.04 lakh under Lucknow discom, 6.29 lakh meters under Agra discom, and 1.57 lakh in Kanpur under KESCo.

UPPCL chairman Alok Kumar said that the smart meters are aimed at making the state more energy-efficient and to improve revenue recovery.
