Vendor for Developing Mobile App for Visually Impaired Selected by RBI

The central bank RBI said that it’s selected a vendor that can create a mobile app for the visually impaired to help them identify different currency notes. It informed the Bombay High Court that the app won’t require an Internet connection to work.

Around 16 vendors had expressed interested in building the app for Reserve Bank of India. However, it was Daffodil Software Pvt. Ltd. that was finally picked.

The app-in-the-making will be able to identify notes in both old Mahatma Gandhi series and the new Mahatma Gandhi series by using the phone’s camera. It will also create “audio notifications” to let the users know if a photo is taken correctly or they need to take it again for proper identification.
