Wilful Defaulters on the Rise, Numbers Cross Rs. 1 Lakh cr

The total number of wilful defaulters, i.e. loan borrowers who refuse to repay despite having the capacity for the same, are increasing at an alarming rate as per the data provided by the TransUnion CIBIL.
According to the credit rating agency, the lenders have observed an increase of almost 45% or Rs. 34,900 crores as wilful defaults from the last year. While the total amount of defaults stood at Rs. 74,694 crores in March 2016, this year it stood at Rs. 1,09,594 crores for the same month.
SBI has the highest wilful defaults at Rs. 15,069 crores followed by PNB at Rs. 10,989 crores during FY17.
