3 Free Insurance Covers Most People Don’t Know About
October 31, 2017
Insurance is something that most people believe has to be paid for. However, there are many insurance covers that the government of India provides for free. The following are top 3 examples of these:
- IRCTC Insurance
If you book a train ticket online through the IRCTC website then you automatically get a free accidental insurance up to Rs. 10 lakhs per passenger. Although earlier you had to pay Rs. 1 for this facility, now it’s available for free.
To offer the insurance service, IRCTC has partnered with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Shriram General, and Royal Sundaram. Under this, a passenger can claim up to Rs. 10 lakhs in the event of death or permanent total disability, Rs. 7.5 lakhs for permanent partial disability, and up to Rs. 2 lakhs for hospitalization costs. - LPG Gas Cylinder Insurance
Every registered LPG cylinder comes under an accidental insurance policy with total coverage up to Rs. 50 lakhs depending on the damages. This is because of the public liability policy that applies to the oil industries. Under this, you can claim up to Rs. 50 lakh per event and Rs. 10 lakh per person. It also covers a personal accidental insurance up to Rs. 5 lakhs per person. - Debit Card Insurance
Almost every private and public sector bank in India offers free accidental insurance to their debit card users. The coverage amount under this varies from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 10 lakhs depending on the bank. However, there are usually some conditions that you must meet if you want to claim the benefits. For instance, many banks require that you must have made a valid transaction with your debit/ATM card within 60 days.
While the government has set up provisions for such kinds of insurances for the public welfare, you must also do preparation on your end to ensure that you receive your claimed amounts easily and conveniently. For instance, in an event of an accident, you must report the same to the police immediately so that it’s put in the records. You must also have the required documents/receipts, etc. so that your claims can be verified easily.
