#CMCInternship
January 12, 2017
My first ever internship experience with Event Capital (Laqshya Media Group) has been a turning point in my learning curve, if I may say so. The journey started with many apprehensions and a nerve of something unknown coming to me, as this was for the first time I was going to work in what people call, the real world.
My internship has taught me more than I could have ever imagined. I joined as an intern with the digital department of the Company. My initial work profile was to work as the research person for various events and digital aspects of the same, but with time I got the opportunity to work on various other things. Thankfully, my duties were diverse leading to a dynamic internship profile that I have experienced. My learnings from the same would be hard to be summarized in just a few paragraphs, but recalling it I do realize I have learned some of the most beneficial lessons ever.
Since this was my first position in an office environment, my observation of how things function in a formal work place was my very first lesson. How team work happens, how the hierarchy works, simple office manners, any many more intricate details were my takeaways. Though the work environment at the company was quite relaxed, the work was at no time compromised.
In the three months’ internship I had the opportunity to work on around five Event IPs of which I got to experience two of the events on-ground, Fulcrum Awards (an PR communications industry recognition event) and Bollywood Music Project (India’s first Bollywood music festival). Though I was a part of the digital team, I did have the chance to experience and observe the functioning of various other segments of the event. Thanks to my supervisor cum my mentor I was also able to attend the event meetings with the CEO and MDs of the company, which in itself was an experience. The knowledge of the fact that things don’t always are a smooth sailing ship had been there but I did have a chance to experience the same, but to see how challenges are handled and how the ship is sustained to sail strong just made the whole thing even more memorable.
As already said, it’s hard to give words to the learnings and memories generated from my experience. But with the conclusion of this internship I am self-assured of the fact that Events is what I am to pursue for the rest of my life. Last but not the least, I do want to express my gratitude to the TSCMC institute for offering this internship to me in the first place.
Now coming to the actual days of the event which were nothing short of a nerve raking experience. The day of the event was an experience in itself. Pre-event late night venue meetings, credentials allotment, duties discussion… everything was a very well “structured chaos” in my opinion . The excitement of a well awaited day, a day for which everyone worked day and night for months was there. Everything was in front of us, all we had to ensure now was to let the audience have a good experience.
First day of the event had all of us assembled at the venue early in the morning. Last moment preparations and checks had to be done. It was an amazing time because I had never felt an aura like that before. The continuous sound check of the performances, the excitement of the stars coming and performing as a trial (it was as if they were performing for us, because we were the audience then!), the final setup and look just made it perfect.
Slowly the audience started to pour in just making the scene all the more real.
The venue was a two staged site where an island bar, a gourmet, shopping stalls, VIP lounges and the wide opened chilling area was created. The day went on with all the performances and people cheering and enjoying. It was an amazing experience to observe from the other side this time. The exhaustion from the day and nights work just made it worthwhile.
Day 1 was amazing, with stars like Rekha Bhardwaj, Hard Kaur, Papon, Sonakshi Sinha, Vishal and Shekhar performing for the crowd. With the wrap up of the first day it just seemed to be perfect when the day 2 happened…and a day better than the perfect it was.in addition to the stunning performances of Sajid Wajid, Sachin Jigar, Badshah, Hariharan and Arijit Singh the vibes of the place just stole my heart. Little encounters of an elderly couple enjoying the music, a son teaching his mother dance steps amongst the other beautified the whole experience…
