Exclusive: Raymond has a strong performance-oriented work culture, says Naresh Mehta, Director - Retail Operations - Franchisee, Raymond Retail

In our conversation with Mr. Mehta, we discovered that even an established brand like Raymond must constantly face the difficult challenge of retaining existing loyal customers while at the same time appeal to a younger generation of consumers. “The only way you can maintain leadership in retail is by innovating,” said Mr. Mehta.

In the video, Mr. Mehta talks about the unique position Raymond Retail finds itself in because the Raymond Shop features both ready-to-wear apparel while also retailing fabric and tailoring services. To adopt this format and yet compete with top-of-the-line apparel brands is the real challenge, he says.

Realizing that it was not feasible to wait for customers to come to the store, one of the recent innovative steps taken by Raymond Retail is its Made to Measure buses which go into IT campuses, clubs and management institutes and allow customers to browse through swatches and place orders within the bus itself. This move has been a huge success and there are plans to roll out the concept on a larger scale, said Mr. Mehta.

So when it comes to hiring employees, Mr. Mehta reveals they look for the same values that have come to define the Raymond brand – trust, leadership and excellence. In the video, he talks about Raymond’s ‘very caring work culture’ coupled with ‘a very, very strong performance orientation’ to ensure it stays one step ahead of its competitors.
