How to File an Overseas Travel Insurance Claim?
May 23, 2018
Travel insurance has many advantages and is especially recommended when you are traveling to a foreign country. However, a lot of people aren’t prepared for the situation in which they need to actually file a claim.
The following are some of the most common scenarios in which you may need to file a claim along with the process details:
Medical Emergency
In an event of medical emergency or accident during your travel, you can use your insurance to bear the expenses and facilitate the treatment process. You can contact your insurer to inform them about the situation and see if they can provide a cashless treatment overseas and reduce the financial burden on your shoulders.
At any rate, you should keep all the prescriptions, medical bills, receipts, etc. so that you can use them when claiming for reimbursement. Also, make sure that the documents are signed/stamped for easy verification.
Lost Passport
Your travel insurance may also cover the financial loss incurred due to the loss of passport. However, you can ask for reimbursement by keeping the receipts and forms used for the arrangement of a duplicate passport. In most cases, you would be asked to furnish the following: passport office receipts, a copy of new passport, embassy receipts, emergency travel certificate, etc.
Lost/Delayed Travel Luggage
Believe it or not, it’s not uncommon for travelers to lose their luggage at the airports or face an unacceptable delay. However, with travel insurance, you can at least get reimbursement for the purchases made due to the delay. For this, you need to get a letter from the airline that states and verifies the delay/loss of luggage. You may also need to furnish your tickets, boarding pass, baggage delivery receipt, etc. When you can back to your home country, you can submit these details and apply for reimbursement.
