How to Get Your Free CIBIL Credit Report?
June 14, 2017
If you always wanted to check your CIBIL report to assess your creditworthiness but stayed on the fence this whole time, then here’s your chance. As per RBI’s new ruling, all the credit agencies in India viz. CIBIL, Highmark, Equifax, etc. have to offer one free credit report per user per year, which is effective from 1st January 2017.
The following are the steps for obtaining a free CIBIL report:
- Go to this link: https://www.cibil.com/freecreditscore/
- Fill out the form with basic details such as name, address, ID proof no. etc.
- As you will submit the filled form a pop-up window will appear on your screen with a comparison of a free CIBIL report and a paid CIBIL report. You can choose the “no thanks” link at the bottom to proceed further.
- On the next page, you have to provide an email ID which is used by other banks/credit card companies to send your account statements or bills. Click “submit” after entering the same. If you don’t have any “alternative email address” then you can choose the “skip” option.
- You will receive an SMS containing your CIBIL information. You will also receive an email with the login details for your free CIBIL report.
- You can now go to the CIBIL page and log in with your provided credentials. You will see your CIBIL score and a few other links such as “view report”, and “raise a dispute” which you can use for contacting CIBIL regarding mistakes in your report if there are any.
The Reserve Bank of India has made it mandatory for all the credit bureaus to provide one free report every year to spread awareness and to make the citizens more careful with their credit usage. Thus, be sure to get your report if you haven’t already.
