How to Secure your IT e-filing Account Through e-filing Vault?

Your income tax account is one of the most important accounts you maintain in your lifetime. Thus, understanding the security risks of the income tax e-filing accounts, the IT department is now offering a unique feature called “e-filing vault”.

Enabling e-filing vault can project your IT account from fraudulent activities through a dual login authentication system. So, even if someone has got their hands on your user ID (i.e. your PAN number) and password, they can’t get access to your income tax account, thanks to an additional verification point.

To activate e-filing vault in your account follow these steps:

1. Log in to your e-filing portal account using your user ID and password.
2. Click “profile settings” tab and select “E-Filing Vault- Higher Security” option from the drop-down list.
3. The screen will now display two sections:

• Login with higher security options
• Lock reset password options

4. The first section i.e. “login with higher security options” will give you a choice between many options viz. login using net banking, Login using Aadhaar OTP, etc. Select any of these and click the “Proceed” button.
5. You will be redirected to a confirmation page, on which you can complete the process by clicking the “Proceed” button.
6. Whichever option you have chosen in the 4th step will change the login process accordingly. For instance, if you have chosen “login using net banking” then next time when you will log in to your account using your user ID and password you will be redirected to “E-Filing Login through Net Banking” where you will need to enter your net banking ID and password for verification. Thus, only you, who has the secondary login information can access your e-filing account.
