Unconventional Marketing Campaigns That Made Waves Across the Globe
Advertising and marketing are two domains where creativity plays a big role. Not only do you have to come up with some of the most unique ideas, but you also have to execute them properly. In this blog, we take a look at some of the most amazing marketing campaigns that were unlike any other.

Volkwagon is known for its creative marketing techniques, and in 2009, it truly capitalized on the “fun factor” when it wanted to push eco-friendly products. It identified a subway staircase in Stockholm, Sweden and turned into a fully functional piano with each step of the staircase capable of producing a different musical note. The idea was that people are more likely to try something if it looks “fun”, and it worked! They found that as many as 66% of the people preferred to take the stairs as opposed to using escalators.

DDB Stockholm which was the ad agency that came up with the concept said that fun is the easiest way to bring about a change in someone’s behavior.

Misereor: Charity Donation Billboard
When it comes to payments, we rarely use cash anymore. Most times, we simply swipe our debit or credit cards. So, in 2014, German NGO Misereor decided to make it easier for people to donate money in the format they were comfortable in. It installed special “charitable billboards” equipped with card readers in various airports. The posters on these billboards depicted the problems that Misereor was fighting against.

For instance, one billboard had a loaf of bread and if a donor swiped their card through the card reader, they would donate 2€ and see the poster image moving in a way that looked as if the card was cutting a slice of bread.

Apple is easily one of the most powerful brands in the world today and is known for coming up with creative ways to promote its products. For instance, it recently launched “Shot on iPhone” campaign in which iPhone users were asked to submit photos shot with their iPhones. It selected some of the best photos and posted them on massive billboards to prove how beautiful they look when “Shot on iPhone”.
